  It is like I turned my brain off before talking to those liars.

  lifeisgood, I'm feeling you, dogg! I know what you mean, you think of yourself a rational, thoughful person. Next thing you know, you are knocking on people's doors talking about water canopies. It's enough to make your head explode.

  Sometimes I even feel as though perhaps I'm wrong for feeling this way about all these things and perhaps because so many JWs truly believe it, that maybe I'm the one who is being close-minded or stubborn. But then I take a look at the overall numbers of JWs versus a more traditional religion like Catholicism or Islam. JW numbers don't come close. So in reality, only a small amount of "Christians" believe and follow WTBS doctrine. So I don't feel like I'm sticking out anymore. If anything I'm leaning towards a more conventional belief system.

  I have heard many witnesses use it to explain "why we can't trust the fossil record" and how "we haven't been on earth as long as scientists say." I even had a brother tell me that he thinks God will bring the water canopy back in paradise so that we don't have issues with flooding and bad weather.

  Franklin, I also have heard various nonsensical comments that made me question my own sanity. It's terrifying that these people have completely deluded themselves into believing things that AREN'T even in the Bible itself. But some publishing company in Brooklyn said it so it must be true. Isn't that kinda what L. Ron Hubbard did sorta? I mean we've got CO's and elders walking around declaring themselves as "princes & dukes", we got people talking about water canopies, 9 year old girls getting baptized, made-up stories about seeing eye dogs leading people to Kingdom Halls (funny thread, BTW), I could go on and on....

  .... yet we bash customs such as Santa Claus because he's a "silly myth". Yet I know now Santa Claus is NOT true, because if he was how could he fly his sleigh through the water canopy?

  Outlaw - obviously the water that fell was miraculous. duh.

  james_woods - great observation! It's made-up doctrine like this that makes a person wonder just how far down this rabbit-hole goes....

  AnnOMaly - hey, it all began with crazy pyramid theory, so why stop there? Maybe the next WTBS publication that has maps in it will include this one:

  Lost Generation - I would be fascinated if they still printed this nonsense nowadays, but like bohm mentioned, the older JWs still cling to it as Gospel.

  Morbidz - I can completelly relate to those feelings! I used to think I knew so much, which is easy to do since we are always being told that we have the "greatest education on earth". It wasn't until I started questing for knowledge that I realized just how ignorant I truly am. Nothing prevents knowledge like arrogance.

  why are so very few of jesus actual words recorded exactly?.

  the new testament is almost entirely written in greek.. jesus spoke aramaic.

  maybe a bit of what was called "market greek".

  Seriously, if "god" created the earth perfect, with it's perfect water canopy, wouldn't unleashing the floodgates of said canopy screw up the entire ecosystem of things that he so perfectly created? An omnipotent being with such knowledge and foresight would have surely not done something SO STUPID.

He deluged those suspended waters down from on high upon his footstool, not to bathe his feet, but to wipe out bad conditions among all mankind.

  Please let me start by first apologizing if this was covered in some earlier thread. I'm still new to this site so I haven't searched through all of the former postings.

  My question that I desperatelly would like answered concerns the supposed "water canopy" that the WTBS claims covered the earth at some early period in human history. I have read a lot of scientific material but I must admit that I've never seen any information regarding this claim. They seem to often allude to idea that prior to the Flood, mankind had never experienced precipitation before. We even had a talk this weekend and the speaker mentioned how when God said it would rain, Noah had to have faith because he had no idea what "rain" would be.

  This hasn't sat well with me ever since I was young. It just doesn't make sense. Is there any scientific evidence that the world at one time was rain-less, enclosed in a "water canopy"? Wouldn't this go against the whole water-cycle?

  Somebody please help me out with this one. It's bad enough that I'm expected to believe that one man was able to get 2 of EVERY kind of animal in a box, but now I have to believe that rain was actually created as a punishment to wicked mankind?

  jah gave us such a loving organization, full of brothers and sisters, full of unity no matter the race, culture, gender or background, the loving faithful and discreet slave with jesus christ as its mediator, the channel, between jesus and us, why should we seek assoication with the world???.

  can anyone answer this question....why should we??

  is there any reason for assoication with the world?.

  All of you are right on the money with these comments. The "unity" they speak of is mostly fictional.

  If you are wealthy, attractive, married to or personally appointed then yes, you really do get to enjoy the "unity" spoken of by the WTBS. However, if you are low-income, considered unattractive, and just a regular R&F magazine-pusher, or if you perhaps suffer from some forms of emotional/psychological disturbances, then you are pretty much a NOBODY and they let you know it. It's kind of like high school. Sad.

  I've known people who are ZEALOUS JWs, put in like 60 hours a month, comment, at EVERY meeting and do everything they are supposed to and just because of social circumstances in their lives that are completely out of their control, they get treated like peasants. But on the other hand, I also know of fringe-JWs (low hour, rarely attend, questionable life-style, etc.) who get invited to everything and treated like royalty simply because they are wealthy or have some other "in".

  Just because you constantly print something in your magazines doesn't make it true.
